Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G Review By Experts And Opinion

Samsung’s Fan Edition (FE) phones have a simple philosophy: offer fans an affordable alternative to more expensive flagships while keeping the price as low as possible. The strategy has worked with the Galaxy S20 FE, which delivered the best of what the S20 had to offer at a reduced price and with a surprising lack of limitations.

Samsung’s Galaxy S21 FE 5G follows the same blueprint, although it arrives at an inconvenient time, following the S21 and with the Galaxy S22 plus. Its main goal is to recreate the feeling of a premium flagship at less-than-premium costs. Is it a success? This S21 FE review by our Bondi Beach team experts covers everything you need to know.

Let’s have a look.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE – Design

The Galaxy S21 FE 5G bears a striking resemblance to the other Galaxy S21 series devices, and it’s easy to confuse it up with them, particularly the S21 and S21 Plus. While the S21 FE 5G has a similar camera hump, it is made of plastic rather than metal. The device has a plastic back with a matte finish, as well as an aluminium frame around the sides.  This phone falls between the S21 and S21+ in terms of size, and at 177g, it is only slightly heavier than the standard model. It has the same build quality as the iPhone 6 Plus, with Gorilla Glass Victus over the screen, an aluminium frame, and plastic back, as well as an IP68 classification for water and dust resistance.

Overall, it’s comfortable to handle, and the plastic back ensures that it doesn’t become too cold or hot in any conditions. While the lack of glass or metal may appear to make the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G a less premium phone, it looks and functions just as well.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE – Display

Like its other S21 siblings, the Galaxy S21 FE 5G has a 6.4-inch Dynamic AMOLED display with a punch-hole notch in the centre. It has a refresh rate of 120Hz and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. The touch response is excellent, and there’s good news for fans of both flat and curved displays: the display itself is flat, but the glass edges are slightly curved. A fingerprint sensor, which is optical this time, is also integrated into the display. It is faster and more responsive than Samsung’s ultrasonic approach, but it is less secure.

This display is essentially just as impressive as the other phones in the series, with a 120Hz refresh rate, Full HD+ resolution, and an AMOLED panel – which is to say, it’s about as good as you could expect for at this price.

The cameras on the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G are another instance of Samsung’s spec shuffle at work. On the back, the phone sports a familiar wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto camera layout, but with a lower-res 8-megapixel sensor than its predecessors’ 64MP sensor. 3x optical zoom is still present, although the camera generates images that aren’t quite as clear or detailed as a normal S21.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE – Processor, Ram & Storage

The S21 FE Specs in Australia features a Samsung Exynos 2100 processor, which is disappointing for a “Fan Edition” phone since Galaxy phone enthusiasts nearly always prefer a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip. The standard model of the S21 FE 5G comes with 128GB of storage, but for an extra $100, you can upgrade to 256GB. This is important to consider because there is no MicroSD card slot, and if you retain a 128GB phone for three to four years, the storage may become full.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G has 6GB of RAM for the 128GB version and 8GB for the 256GB version, which is a touch disappointing. This is particularly crucial to consider if you intend to play graphics-intensive games or want a gaming phone, as these may quickly consume over a GB of RAM on their own. Samsung is attempting to persuade users to purchase the $100 more expensive 256GB storage/8GB RAM model.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE – Battery

In terms of battery life, the Galaxy S21 FE 5G is equipped with a 4,500mAh battery that supports 25W cable charging and 15W wireless charging. On a typical day, with modest gaming, multitasking, plenty of texting and phone calls, and a few photos, the phone lasted me till the evening.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE - verdict by get it fixt

In its own right, the Samsung Samsung Galaxy S21 FE  is a superb value flagship from Samsung. It ticks all the boxes in terms of performance and functionality, and despite the price increase, it remains one of the few phones in this price category to include premium features like wireless charging and IP68 waterproofing. The Galaxy S21 FE probably eliminates the Galaxy S21, which at its present price no longer provides any major value.
